JWM Summer Interns 2013

JWM Summer Interns 2013

This summer we are lucky again to have two hardworking young interns with us. They’ve come to J.W.Morton & Associates to gain real-world experience, while building up their portfolios and skills. We’re excited they’re here and look forward to seeing great things from them this summer. I asked Austin and Maddie a few getting-to-know-you questions. Read below to learn more!

Name: Austin Bolyard
Hometown: Marion, IA
School: Marion High School, Kirkwood Community College and Iowa State University
Degree: 2-year Graphic Design from Kirkwood. Currently heading into my senior year at Iowa State, working on my 4-year Graphic Design degree.

What are you looking forward to most/enjoying about being an intern?
Learning what it’s like to work in the real world and learning outside of the class environment.

What is your dream job?
Working for J.W.Morton of course! (But I’d be happy to find a job close to home in Cedar Rapids.)

What are three of your pet peeves?
1. People who don’t respect others’ opinions.
2. People who think they know everything and don’t listen to what others say.
3. Being woken up in the middle of a really good dream.

What is your favorite dessert?
Hot fudge sundae.

What is your favorite song?
“Walk Tall” by John Mellencamp

What are three fun facts about you?
1. I like to play games whether it be playing video games or running outside playing tag (I never did grow up much).
2. I am naturally shy and don’t usually talk to people unless spoken to first.
3. I don’t like talking to people I don’t know on the phone (even when trying to order a pizza).

Name: Maddie Young
Hometown: Cedar Rapids, IA
School: Linn-Mar High School

What are you looking forward to most/enjoying about being an intern?
I like to see signs or ads in the newspaper that I know J.W.Morton created. It’s pretty nifty to know that I’m a part of an organization that is so abundant in my community. (Given I am a very small part – but a part is a part.)

What is your dream job?
I would love more than anything to be the CEO of a fashion company. On the flip side, I think it would be fascinating to be a neuroscientist. I’m a little all over the board in regards to career aspirations at this point in my life.

What are three of your pet peeves?
1. I hate when people talk on the phone when in a group.
2. Little noises people make when I’m trying to concentrate – like tapping a pen, humming, etc.
3. People who try to debate on subjects they are unfamiliar with, or misinformed about.

What is your favorite dessert?
Pecan pie all the way! But I would never reject crème brûlée or gooey brownies.

What is your favorite song?
I like Dustin O’Halloran’s Prelude #2

What are three fun facts about you?
1. I’ve loved to sing ever since I was little. When I was 5, I dressed up as Gwen Stefani for Halloween. This included the belly shirt, leather jacket and shades at night.
2. I love documentaries, particularly those about the mind. They make me feel smarter and always provide a good tie-in between schooling and the physical world.
3. Gymnastics has always appealed to me. When I was younger, I was on a gymnastics team that competed all around Iowa. It was a blast! I’m retired now, but I watch tournaments whenever they’re on TV, and the gymnastics section of the Olympics is always DVR’ed so I don’t miss anything.
